<WHO VACCINE MANUFACTURING WORKSHOP FOR SOUTH-EAST ASIA AND THE WESTERN PACIFIC REGIONS>

A lesson learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic is the importance of having a geographically diversified vaccine production to meet the global and local demands and enhance vaccination uptake. I know that this is an important issue too for IVI and you are looking at supporting this.  Equitable access to affordable and quality-assured vaccines continues to be at the forefront of initiatives encouraging vaccine manufacturers to actively partake the production of routine vaccines and increase their adaptability to new technologies.  With this in mind we would be really excited if IVI could join an event we are planning to boost regional vaccine manufacturing capacity.

WHO is planning to conduct regional vaccine manufacturing workshop in collaboration with WHO headquarters, Regional Office for South-East Asia, Regional Office for the Western Pacific, Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), from 21-22 February, 15H00 – 17H30 (Philippine Standard Time; the exact time to be confirmed and informed to those who register as participant in advance). (Çѱ¹½Ã°£ 2022.2.21 ~2.22 / 14:00~16:30)

This event is first ever bringing government departments, vaccine regulators, vaccine manufacturers & associations, global and regional partners such as government department and NRAs BMGF, PATH, CEPI, WB, ADB, IVI and others in the region.  This workshop will bring a platform to engage, dialogue and collaborate towards preparedness and response to COVID-19 and future pandemics and vaccines under routine immunization to improve vaccine security, in particular, in LMICs. It aims to address the specific needs at country and regional levels on the development plans for a robust and sustainable local production environment and to deliver thoughts and ideas on potential regional roadmaps in South-East Asia and Western Pacific regions to strengthen vaccine production capacity/capability and improve production efficiency through strategic WHO policies and guidelines, research and development, financial investment, political and government commitment.

The objectives of the meeting are to:

¡¤         Present and discuss the regional panorama of vaccine production capacity/capability as well as challenges and gaps in the South-East Asia and Western Pacific regions;

¡¤         Review and share CEPI¡¯s 2021 vaccine manufacturing landscape survey data collected from the WHO South-East Asia and the Western Pacific regions;

¡¤         Explore the development of a regional roadmap towards improving vaccine manufacturing capacity/capability and/or efficiencies to improve epidemic/pandemic preparedness and response in the South-East Asia and the Western Pacific regions

Draft agenda is found below for your information. Updated version will be provided to those who register in advance. Here is the link for pre-registration.
